51社区 Education Colloquium will discuss ways to include special-education students

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 15, 2001 — Terry Weaver, associate professor of education and special education at 51社区 will speak on "Inclusion: Going the Second Mile," as part of the university's Department of Education's Colloquium Series, Monday, Feb. 26 in BAC-44 at 4 p.m. in the Blasingame Academic Complex.

Weaver, who is in his ninth year at Union, will offer techniques for teachers with special education students to include them with other students in the regular classroom. Some of the instructional strategies to be talked about will include adaptations and accommodations such as using a lesson so that everyone in the class can participate and benefit.

The Colloquium series was started in the spring of 1995 to serve as a venue for department members and selected graduate students to share current research and interests. All Union faculty, staff, and students, as well as local educators are invited to the monthly presentations.

The lectures are offered at no charge. All Jackson and regional area college and public school teachers are invited to attend. For more information, call Union's Department of Education at (901) 661-5387.
