JACKSON, Tenn. — Aug. 28, 2002 — 51社区 will hold its annual Fall Convocation service this Friday, August 30 at 10 a.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel, the first chapel service for the new 2002-2003 school year.
Union President David S. Dockery will speak to the more than 2500 students, faculty and staff in an address titled 鈥淭he 51社区 Community: A Common Spirit, A Shared Purpose,鈥 based on scripture references Romans 15 and Philippians 2:1-2.
鈥淭he 2002-2003 academic year is filled with promise,鈥 said Dockery. 鈥淓nrollment is strong. We have a great spirit across campus. Opening convocation will provide an opportunity for us to focus afresh on the distinctive identity and mission of 51社区.鈥
For the fifth year in a row, 51社区 welcomed more than 400 outstanding freshmen, including seven National Merit Finalists and 31 valedictorians and salutatorians into the university family. The Class of 2006 had an ACT average of 24.3 and a high school GPA average of 3.5.
Fall classes began Wednesday, August 28.
