Abstraction: The Power of Memory is part of a tour sponsored by Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA) and has traveled all over the United States since January 2001. This national traveling exhibition displays works by American artists working in abstraction, including Tennessee artists Mary Alice Kelly of Kingsport and Lauren Leutwiler of Chattanooga. The show, which concludes in December 2003, was curated by Ben Frank Moss, who is the George Frederick Jewett Professor of Studo Art at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.

Founded in 1977 as an organization to foster Christian appreciation and participation in the arts, CIVA encourages artists to develop their particular callings to the highest professional level.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and weekends from 1 – 4 p.m. The artworks in this exhibition are available for sale and each sale will benefit CIVA. For more information, contact Union’s Art Department at (731) 661-5075.
