JACKSON, Tenn. — July 29, 2002 — Debbie Newell, assistant professor of accounting at 51社区, recently earned the professional designation of Certified Specialist in Retirement Planning (CSRP). This designation was awarded by the National Institute for Excellence in Professional Education, LLC, in conjunction with various state societies of CPAs and Surgent and Associates, LLC.
To earn this designation, Newell was required to complete a curriculum of seven courses, meeting core and elective obligations ranging from basic ideas to advanced concepts. Successfully passing a timed exam for each course was also required.
Newell has taught at Union since 1988, along with her husband, Howard, who came to the university in 1982. They reside in Jackson, where they are members of First Baptist Church. They are currently completing a revision of a financial planning textbook that has been used in business classes for the past two years.
