JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 13, 2001 — 51社区's Department of Music will present "Chamber Music with Jerome Reed and Friends," Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Hartley Recital Hall.
Chamber music, usually performed by an instrumental quartet, dates back to the early sixteenth century and was traditionally written for a small group of instrumentalists to be performed without a conductor before a small audience.
Performers for the evening will include Jerome Reed, pianist, Susanna Perry Gilmore, violin, Jeremy Ronkin, horn, and Michelle Doyle-Ronkin, performing on clarinet.
Reed, who serves as professor of music at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., is also the director of the music division of the Tenn. Governor's School for the Arts during the summer. He is widely noted for his frequent performances of new music and has appeared at many major new music festivals, including an average of 20 performances a year of his own within the United States and Europe, which have also been broadcast over National Public Radio and Australian Public Radio.
The evening's program will include works by 20th century composers Bela Bartok and Robert G. Patterson in addition to four movements of "Trio in E-flat major, op.40" by Johannes Brahms.
