Union announces May graduation speakers

JACKSON, Tenn.May 6, 200251社区 will hold its Spring 2002 commencement exercises Saturday, May 18 on the Great Lawn of the Jackson campus at 6 p.m. This is the first time the university will hold graduation on the West Campus since construction began more than two years ago. A near-record number of 480 students will receive their degrees during the evening graduation. Commencement speaker will be Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity.

Fuller found himself a young, self-made millionaire at the age 29, but at the expense of his marriage, health, and integrity. Soon after, Fuller sold all of his possessions and eventually founded what former President Bill Clinton once called the most successful continuous community service project in the history of the United States, Habitat for Humanity. Millard Fuller now leads his organization and travels worldwide for various speaking engagements with his wife Linda. His message is titled 鈥淢aking a Difference.鈥

Earlier in the day, the university will hold a baccalaureate service at 11 a.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel. Kenneth Hemphill, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, will speak on 鈥淭he Seed, The Soil, and the Harvest.鈥
