Tritt appointed dean of Union鈥檚 College of Education

JACKSON, Tenn.Dec. 13, 2024 — Teresa Tritt, associate professor of education and director of 51社区鈥檚 Educator Preparation Program, has been named dean of Union鈥檚 College of Education.

Tritt replaces John Foubert, who has served as dean since 2018 and is moving to a position as a full-time professor at Union.

鈥淒r. Tritt鈥檚 devotion to students, her knowledge of how to prepare educators and her passion for ministry prepare her well to lead the College of Education in the years ahead,鈥 Union Provost Jacob Shatzer said. 鈥淚 look forward to the way she will shape and guide the academic programs, faculty, staff and students to advance our mission and prepare leaders for church and society.鈥

Tritt joined the Union faculty in her current position in 2018. Prior to that, she served in a variety of roles with the Jackson-Madison County School System, as a teacher, principal of Northeast Middle School and the Academic Academy, principal of Thelma Barker Elementary School, leader of elementary education and principal of Alexander Elementary School.

She also served as director of education for Sylvan Learning Center and as a teacher in the Memphis City School System.

She worked with the Tennessee Southwest Core Regional Office to score 鈥淭eachers of the Year鈥 and was a committee member for Tennessee鈥檚 State Board Educator Report Card Committee.

In addition to her professional positions, Tritt has served as the chairperson for West Tennessee Lifelines for Educators, managed the Holiday Mission Market for the TrueLight Child Care Project, participated in Trinity Christian Academy鈥檚 Leadership Symposium and assisted in the annual organization of the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk at Union.

Tritt completed her bachelor鈥檚 degree in interdisciplinary studies from Lambuth University. She earned her Master of Arts in education, her Education Specialist and her Doctor of Education degrees from Union.

She and her husband Steve are members of Fellowship Bible Church in Jackson.
