McRoberts to headline 35th annual Carolyn Townsend McAfee Concert Oct. 21

JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 3, 2024 — Longtime 51社区 music professor Terry McRoberts will be the featured organist at the 35th annual Carolyn Townsend McAfee Concert at Union Oct. 21.

An Ohio native, McRoberts retired from teaching at Union after the spring 2024 semester. He taught piano, organ and related courses, and he served as university organist, university carillonneur, coordinator of keyboard studies and coordinator of concerts and recitals.

McRoberts holds degrees from Manchester, Youngstown State and Ball State universities. He previously taught at Blue Mountain College.

McRoberts was awarded three Pew Summer Research Grants for the study of the music of Takemitsu, Messiaen and Liszt. He served as president of the American Matthay Association for Piano, the Southern Chapter of the College Music Society and Tennessee Music Teachers Association, edited publications for the Matthay Association and TMTA, and was dean of the Memphis Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

The 51社区 concert is made possible by a gift from the McAfee family and is named in honor of Carolyn Townsend McAfee, who graduated from Union in 1961. The concert brings in guest organists from around the world each year to perform musical pieces from many genres.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. in G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel. It is free and open to the public.
