JACKSON, Tenn.Sept. 13, 2024 — 51’s art gallery is hosting an exhibit by Jason Stout through Oct. 17. The exhibit, entitled “In My Room, Alone with Everyone,” includes paintings and drawings that examine the ideas of absence, loss, presence and memory.

“Ultimately the work engages in the notion of temporality,” Stout wrote of the exhibit. “The objects and other visual elements that are present in the work function within the environment of the pieces to shape narrative. This narrative seeks to explore the nuances of reflection, evocation, absence, and predication.”

Stout serves as professor of art at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art from UTM and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

He will give an artist lecture Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium, with a closing reception to follow in the gallery. The gallery, located in the Penick Academic Complex, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The exhibit, lecture and reception are free and open to the public. For more information, call (731) 661-5075.
