JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 11, 2024 — 51社区 has named Kim Jones, who joined the university faculty in 2007, as dean of its College of Pharmacy.
Jones replaces Sheila Mitchell, the College of Pharmacy鈥檚 founding dean, who retired from Union.
鈥淯nion鈥檚 College of Pharmacy is a special place with deep devotion to students and one another,鈥 Union Provost Jacob Shatzer said. 鈥淣ot only is Kim ready to step into this key leadership role, but her colleagues are also ready and excited to follow her as she deepens and extends the legacy of Dr. Mitchell.鈥
Since 2019, Jones served as the College of Pharmacy鈥檚 assistant dean for student services and as professor of pharmacy practice. Her initial position at Union was director of students and professional relations and assistant professor of pharmacy.
Prior to joining Union, Jones was a clinical pharmacist in internal medicine and cardiology at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., and completed residency training at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, La.
A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Jones earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. She also completed the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy鈥檚 Academic Leadership Fellows Program.
Jones has been recognized as a fellow with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and has extensive organizational leadership experience at the state and national level, including service as the president of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association and Tennessee Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists.
She and her husband, Jud, have two children, Lainey and Cooper, and are members of Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt, Tenn.
