JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 10, 2022 — 51社区鈥檚 School of Theology and Missions and the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board are hosting a conference to train youth in Christian apologetics. Equip Youth Apologetics Conference will be held in Union鈥檚 Carl Grant Event Center on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m.

With key speakers trained in theology, philosophy, apologetics and youth ministry, the Equip Youth Apologetics Conference helps youth defend and affirm essential Christian truths. The conference will explore key responses to common objections to Christianity as well as how to engage in apologetics with wisdom and grace.

Gregory Poore, Union associate professor of philosophy, apologetics and ethics, said he hopes young people will be equipped to obey 1 Peter 3:15 鈥 to defend the truth of Christianity 鈥渨ith gentleness and respect.鈥

鈥淚 pray that those who attend the conference will leave better equipped to let their light shine brightly, courageously and with the warmth of a heart transformed by the gospel,鈥 Poore said.

Poore hopes the Equip Youth Apologetics Conference will be a great starting point to help students be confident in their faith as courageous, wise and loving witnesses for Christ.

鈥淎t points in our lives, we all have questions or doubts about Christianity, and we all encounter others who have questions and doubts,鈥 Poore said. 鈥淩ather than letting these build to a crisis point, we need to be proactive in equipping our children to face and to address these questions and doubts.鈥

Jay Barbier, youth specialist at Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, said teaching apologetics to youth is important as it equips them to answer the tough questions of life from a biblical perspective.

鈥淚f we don鈥檛 help [students] understand the truths of God鈥檚 word, then the world will gladly teach them the lies,鈥 Barbier said.
