JACKSON, Tenn. — May 6, 2022 — 51ÉçÇø presented more than 80 awards to students, faculty and staff May 6 at the annual Awards Day chapel service.
The Carla D. Sanderson Faculty of the Year Award went to Santhosh Abraham, associate professor of accounting. Luanne Powell, senior program director for the School of Adult and Professional Studies, was awarded with the Gary L. Carter Staff of the Year Award.
Hal Poe, the Charles Colson Professor of Faith and Culture, received the Faculty Researcher of the Year Award, which recognizes a full-time faculty member who has made significant and sustained scholarly contributions to his or her discipline and the academy.

The Bettye and Kermit Whiteaker Freshman Biology Award was presented to Camille Haas.
The Pre-Pharmacy Excellence Award was presented to Rachel Dawson.
The Kina S. Mallard Communication Arts Student of the Year Award was presented to Leah Margaret Busler.
The Bill Truex Award in Computer Science was presented to Ben Trainor.
The Helen Blythe Creative Writing Award was presented to Sydney Schmude.
The Dr. James Alex Baggett History Research Paper Award was presented to Anne Adams.
The Wolfram Award in Computational Science was presented to Josiah Hays.
The Kyle L. Hathcox Memorial Physics Award was presented to Taylor Overcast.
The Dr. Bill Bouchillon Psychology Excellence Award was presented to Alexis Haege.
The Curtiss E. Scott Business Excellence Award was presented to Sean Otto.
The Dorothy Woodard Myatt Intern of the Year Award was presented to Drake Thompson for Secondary Intern of the Year, to Kacey Elam for Special Education Intern of the Year and to Haley Ramsey for Elementary Intern of the Year.
The Fred DeLay Memorial Award, for a senior who is an outstanding athlete, a person of high academic standing, unquestionable loyalty and good character, was presented to Abigail Bergquist Dean.
The Georgia Wilson Memorial Award for Clinical Nursing was presented to Trinitee Riggins.
The Barnabas Leadership Award promotes the ideals of servant leadership in the Union community. This year’s recipients were Anna Thompson and David Edgren.
The Intramural Female Athlete of the Year was Hadie Sowell. The Intramural Male Athlete of the Year was Drew Logsdon.
The Servant Leadership Program Student Employee of the Year was Anna Rae Jeter. The Servant Leadership Program Supervisor of the Year was Vernetta Anderson.
The Greek Scholarship Cups, which are awarded annually to the two social fraternities with the highest average, were presented to the men of Lambda Chi Alpha and the women of Chi Omega (for the 75th consecutive year).
The Howard Newell Innovative Teaching Award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated creativity and innovation in classroom teaching. Selections are made by a faculty committee. The award was presented to Phil Davignon, associate professor of sociology.
