JACKSON, Tenn. — April 13, 2022 — The Cardinal & Cream, 51社区鈥檚 student online and print publication, was named Best College Magazine for the fourth year during the Southeast Journalism Conference鈥檚 annual Best of the South competition.
On March 26, 51社区 was one of over 30 schools across eight states that participated in the Best of the South competition, including the University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi and more.
Ted Kluck, assistant professor of communication arts and adviser for the Cardinal & Cream, said it is a great honor to see Union students be awarded for such a high achievement while also not compromising their Christ-centered ideals.
鈥淲e have become robust at the craft, but at the same time, we have not become less Christian,鈥 Kluck said. 鈥淲e could curate our content to the culture, but I鈥檓 proud of these students who have not wavered on their Christian values.鈥
Kluck said by God鈥檚 grace, they continue to see tremendous growth in the journalism program, and he is thankful for the Union administration for their constant support for the Cardinal & Cream and Union journalism students.
鈥淚 think people are getting to know Union as the kind of place they can come and really grow as writers but not have to check their faith at the door,鈥 Kluck said. 鈥淭hey鈥檒l be encouraged in their faith here, but they鈥檒l also be encouraged and receive good coaching in their craft here.鈥
As a graduating senior, Natalie Nagy, Editor-In-Chief for the Cardinal & Cream, said she is grateful to see the staff鈥檚 hard work and dedication come to fruition in this way.
Along with Best College Magazine, the Cardinal & Cream has received multiple Best Feature Writer and College Journalist of the Year awards from Southeast Journalism Conference鈥檚 Best of the South competition. To learn more about the Cardinal & Cream, visit .
