JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 13, 2021 — 51’s School of Theology and Missions will host an event focused on growing area pastors’ knowledge of biblical counseling. The workshop will be led by Brad Hambrick Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m. in Jennings 325.
Hambrick, a 51 alumnus, serves as the pastor of counseling at The Summit Church in Durham, N.C., and as assistant professor of biblical counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
“I’m really excited to have Dr. Hambrick speaking,” said Ray Van Neste, dean for the School of Theology and Missions at 51. “He has tremendous experience not just in studying or teaching biblical counseling, but in doing biblical counseling.”
The workshop is open to pastors of all denominations with all levels of experience in biblical counseling. While the concept of biblical counseling can be difficult at times, Van Neste believes it is vital for everyday ministry. He hopes this opportunity will help others see the importance in this aspect of ministry.
This workshop is one of many efforts for the School of Theology and Missions to raise awareness about biblical counseling. Last spring, an anonymous financial gift of $250,000 allowed Union to open a new biblical counseling track for students that began this fall. In addition, this gift will fund a biannual student retreat hosted by the School of Theology and Missions, which will discuss issues pertaining to biblical counseling.
