JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 21, 2021 — 51社区 will host Family Weekend 2021, one of the university鈥檚 favorite annual traditions, Sept. 24-25 with a variety of events and activities for the whole family.
David Bowman, assistant resident director for Heritage complex, said Family Weekend is a great opportunity for families to experience campus life and to meet the community pouring into their students鈥 lives.
As a high school student, Bowman attended Family Weekend with his brother, a Union student at the time. He said he vividly remembers how influential the opportunity was to experience life at Union, and it ultimately led him to decide to pursue an education at Union himself.
鈥淔amily Weekend was easily one of the most memorable times I had at Union previous to being a student because of the way Union accepted me into their community for those few days,鈥 Bowman said.
Festivities will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. with a cookout on the Great Lawn to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Chi Omega sorority and Union Dining Services will sponsor this event. Leah Herndon, a junior psychology major and philanthropy chair for Chi Omega sorority, said it is an honor to serve such a wonderful cause.
鈥淢ake-a-Wish is so important to us, and we love getting to share that love for our philanthropy with others,鈥 Herndon said. 鈥淭he cookout will give a closer look into our chapter and how much we care about the children and Make-a-Wish.鈥
Also Friday night, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Student Activities Council will host Movie on the Lawn at 8 p.m., screening 鈥淜ung Fu Panda.鈥 Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for the outdoor event.
On Saturday at 10 a.m., Union President Samuel W. 鈥淒ub鈥 Oliver will host his annual president鈥檚 brunch in the Carl Grant Events Center. Following at 1:30 p.m., teams will compete for the cornhole championship tournament outside the Grace residence quad.
Family Weekend 2021 will conclude with Union Night, an annual event hosted on the Great Lawn. Union Night will feature campus organization displays, a Ferris wheel, local food trucks and a fireworks show.
Blank Slate Improv will perform Saturday at 9 p.m. in the W.D. Powel Theatre. To purchase Blank Slate Improv tickets, visit the UU Theatre website.
