The program will also prepare individuals for doctoral programs in music, music technology or related fields. This is the only Master of Music in Music Technology degree program offered in the Southeast, said Kelly K. Garner, associate professor in the Department of Music and the program鈥檚 director.

The 36-hour program will offer two emphases, live performance or studio recording/post-production. It is designed to be completed in two years but can be accelerated into an 18-month program. The master鈥檚 degree is designed for those with a Bachelor of Music or similar degree, current industry professionals looking to advance their careers or professionals in related fields who want to expand their knowledge of recording.

鈥淥ur unique degree can help the college graduate further his or her education while simultaneously being trained in all the industry-standard software platforms,鈥 Garner said. 鈥淲e designed this program to meet the needs of aspiring musicians in the quickly evolving music industry worldwide.鈥

The need for music technology training and specialists in this field has never been greater, she continued. Job openings are available in traditional academic programs, church venues, performance venues and in corporate education or research. More details about the program can be found at uu.edu/mm.

The Master of Music in Music Technology degree program is pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and the National Association of Schools of Music.
