Union voice students win Tennessee NATS competition awards

JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 16, 2020 — Four Union voice students won awards at the Fall 2020 Tennessee National Association of Teachers of Singing competition at the end of October.

Approximately 140 students across Tennessee competed in this year鈥檚 NATS competition that included more than 20 different categories, ranging from high school to advanced post-graduate. Each Union award winner is a student of Sabrina Warren, assistant professor of vocal studies.

Kaylen Williams, senior music education major, won first place in Music Theater Junior/Senior Treble and second place (tie) in Senior/Fourth-Fifth Year College Treble. Kolby Atkins, junior music major, won first place in Music Theater Junior/Senior Tenor/Baritone/Bass and second place in Junior/Third Year College Tenor/Baritone/Bass. Jake Beals, senior theater major, won second place in Music Theater Junior/Senior Tenor/Baritone/Bass. Cameron Smith, a May 2020 music graduate who continues to study voice privately with Warren, won first place in American Negro Spiritual Treble and Tenor/Baritone/Bass.
