JACKSON, Tenn. — May 15, 2020 — 51社区鈥檚 spring commencement ceremonies, originally scheduled for May 16, will be held June 20 on the university鈥檚 Great Lawn.
To comply with social distancing guidelines, the university will hold three separate ceremonies that day 鈥 at 10 a.m. for students receiving graduate degrees, at 2 p.m. for non-traditional undergraduate students and at 6 p.m. for traditional undergraduate students.
51社区 President Samuel W. 鈥淒ub鈥 Oliver said each graduate will likely be limited to six guests, but that decision will come after determining how many students plan to return for the festivities.
鈥淲e are thrilled that we will be able to recognize our spring graduates and celebrate with them in a public ceremony,鈥 Oliver said. 鈥淲hile we understand that circumstances related to the pandemic could disrupt us again, we are hopeful that the commencement ceremonies will proceed as planned. Our graduates deserve to be honored in this way.鈥
Oliver added that details are still being worked out and a contingency plan would be in place in the event of rain.
