JACKSON, Tenn. — April 22, 2020 — 51社区鈥檚 art department is hosting a virtual design show this year to allow seniors who are graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree the opportunity to showcase their work.
The annual design show is usually held in Barefoots Joe on the Union campus and displays the capstone projects of graduating seniors. That wasn鈥檛 possible this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
鈥淭he challenge for this was, 鈥楬ow do you recreate the gallery experience for someone who can鈥檛 be there physically?鈥欌 said Melinda Posey, associate professor of art. 鈥淲e wanted to come up with something that would honor our seniors and give others a chance to see their work.鈥
To do that, the art department has dedicated a page for each senior on its website at . The work of graphic design students Eli Creasy, Giovanna de Souza and Emily Drost is posted now, and the work of Jessica Ferrari (sculpture) and Jessa Potts (ceramics) will be added next week.
In addition, the art department is hosting two Zoom chats for the seniors to present their work and answer any questions from participants. The first will feature the graphic design students on April 23 at 5:30 p.m., and the link is posted on the website. The second chat will be at 5:30 p.m. on April 30 and will feature the work of Ferrari and Potts.
Posey said the art department plans to display the work of all five seniors on campus this fall during Homecoming.
