JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 17, 2020 — Nathan Finn, provost and dean of the university faculty and professor of Christian studies and history at North Greenville University, will give the fourth annual David and Lanese Dockery Lectures on Baptist Thought and Heritage at 51社区 March 17.
鈥淥ur Dockery Lectures give us the opportunity to reflect on our Baptist heritage and the particular insight our own history can provide for today,鈥� said Ray Van Neste, dean for the School of Theology and Missions and professor of biblical studies. 鈥淲e are excited to welcome back to campus Dr. Nathan Finn, who is one of our leading Baptist historians today.鈥�
Prior to serving at North Greenville in Tigerville, South Carolina, Finn served at Union from 2015-2018 as dean for the School of Theology and Missions and professor of theological studies. He also served as associate professor of historical theology and spiritual formation at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2007-2015, and he continues to teach in the seminary鈥檚 Ph.D. program.
Finn will give two lectures in the Carl Grant Events Center: 鈥淭oward a Holistic Interpretation of Southern Baptist History鈥� at 3:30 p.m. and 鈥淎ndrew Fuller and the Future of Southern Baptist Theology鈥� at 7 p.m. Both lectures are free and open to the public.
The Dockery Lectures are named for former Union President David S. Dockery, who served as president from 1996-2014. This annual event is designed to examine the important of the Baptist heritage, the distinctives of Baptist thought and the influence of the Christian intellectual tradition.
