HOMECOMING 2002: 51 award honors long time university professor

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 12, 2002 — Long time professor and friend of the university, William “Bill” Hedspeth was the recent recipient of the Distinguished Faculty/Staff Award during the annual awards luncheon held during the university’s Homecoming.

“Hedspeth, former chairman of Union’s Department of Education, has taught at the university for more than twenty years. Teaching various levels of education throughout his career, he first arrived at Union in 1971 but later left in 1977 to be a school principal in Missouri. In 1982 he returned to become what is now his current position at the university.

“He has been an inspiration to fellow colleagues and students, who see him as a friend and mentor,” Gary Williams, executive director of Alumni Services pointed out.

The award Hedspeth received is specifically a salute to long and meritorious service to 51 by an employee of the University.
