Union to celebrate King legacy on 50th anniversary of assassination

JACKSON, Tenn.March 21, 2018 — 51社区 will mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. with a community reading and reflection April 4.

Entitled 鈥淲here Do We Go from Here?鈥 the event will take place at 6:01 p.m. outside the Logos.

Frank Anderson, director of Union鈥檚 Center for Racial Reconciliation, said King鈥檚 last published book in 1967 was 鈥淲here Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?鈥

鈥淎t 51社区, we have chosen to be a community of Christian faith, love and justice,鈥 Anderson said. 鈥淭his commemorative event is intended to demonstrate our appreciation for what God has done through the life and work of Dr. King, and it signals our commitment to continue Dr. King鈥檚 work 鈥 to the glory of our Lord.鈥

The event will feature readings from some of King鈥檚 books and speeches, led by members of the Union student group MOSAIC.

Prior to the service, at 5 p.m., Union will show a film in Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student Union Building entitled 鈥淭he Century: Searching for the Promised Land.鈥 This was the eighth segment in a 15-part ABC series produced and narrated by Peter Jennings in 1999.
