JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 26, 2017 — 51社区鈥檚 School of Social Work will host a Sept. 27 live broadcast of experts discussing the nation鈥檚 opioid epidemic.
鈥淩ecovery, Prevention, and Hope: Confronting the Opioid Crisis鈥� will feature a broadcast from Washington D.C. with a panel convened by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services discussing awareness, encouraging compassion and reinforcing the role of community and families in long-term recovery and prevention.
Following the broadcast, a panel of local experts will also address the topic. Panelists include Barry Cooper of the Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency, Mary Russell of the Aspell Recovery Center, Kim Parker of Pathways and Damien Nethery of The Grove.
The event will be held in the Carl Grant Events Center from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., with lunch at 11:30 and the program beginning at noon.
Registration is $15 and covers two continuing education units upon request and lunch. Pre-registration is required for lunch. Current students may attend for free without lunch but will not receive the continuing education units.
