JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 27, 2016 — The 51社区 department of music will present the 28th annual McAfee Organ Concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel. Concert Organist Janette Fishell will be the featured guest organist at this year鈥檚 concert.
Fishell serves as professor of organ and chair of the organ department at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University. She holds degrees in organ performance from Indiana University and Northwestern University. As a student, she was named Young Organist of the Year by Keyboard Arts Inc., and she has performed at distinguished concert venues around the world.
She is nearing completion of her 21- concert project 鈥淭he Seasons of Sebastian,鈥 performing the complete organ works of Johan Sebastian Bach for the first time at Jacobs School of Music. Fishell will perform music from composers Bach, Paul Hindemith, Max Reger and Lionel Rogg at the McAfee Organ Concert.
The concert is made possible by a gift from the McAfee family and is named in honor of Carolyn Townsend McAfee, who graduated from Union in 1961. It brings in guests organists from around the world each year to perform musical pieces from many genres.
