JACKSON, Tenn. — Aug. 19, 2016 — More than 350 new students moved into student housing at 51社区 on Friday morning. Parents, faculty and staff filled the parking lots as they helped students move into their rooms.
Dana Hurkmans of Millington, Tennessee, said the move-in day was a perfect kick-off to her college life, and there was a feeling of excitement and joy as students met each other.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 part of a Christian university,鈥 Hurkmans said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 such a strong community, even on the first day.鈥
Gavin Hamann and Mara Harris are both from the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, area, and they are excited to make the move to Tennessee. They said they attend the same church in Minnesota and heard about Union through family friends.
鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to getting plugged into a Christian community,鈥 said Hamann, who is majoring in engineering. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 what Union has that other colleges with good engineering programs don鈥檛.鈥
Harris, who will be studying nursing, said Union was the last school she visited on her college campus tours. She said as soon as she visited, her decision was made.
鈥淭he people here are very smart, and they are totally invested toward Christ,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t will be great to get involved with them while advancing to a career.鈥
Most of the new students moved into the Heritage Residence Complex, with a few living in the Quads. They will participate in more Welcome Week activities over the next few days before classes begin August 23.
