JACKSON, Tenn.April 29, 2016 — The MentorU program for area sixth graders will hold an end-of-year celebration May 1 at the Jackson Generals baseball game.

MentorU is a partnership that began in the fall of 2015 among the five colleges in Jackson. The program matches sixth graders from North Parkway Middle School with mentors from 51社区, Jackson State Community College, Lane College, Tennessee College of Applied Technology and University of Memphis Lambuth.

The program is designed to help the sixth graders consider future college and career opportunities. About 30 students participated and were introduced to engineering, conservation biology and social work as career and study options at Union鈥檚 campus day in October. The other colleges hosted the MentorU students throughout the year as well.

The May 1 celebration at the Generals game at 2:05 p.m. will be an opportunity to recognize participants and to show appreciation for the volunteers.
