JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 6, 2015 — Author and poet Kevin Young will give a reading at 51社区 Oct. 22, sponsored by the Lyceum Committee and the 51社区 English department.
Young is the author of eight books of poetry, most recently 鈥淏ook of Hours,鈥 which was featured on National Public Radio鈥檚 鈥淔resh Air,鈥 and editor of eight others. His previous book, 鈥淎rdency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels,鈥 won a 2012 American Book Award, and 鈥淛elly Roll: A Blues鈥 was a finalist for the National Book Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and winner of the Paterson Poetry Prize.
Young is the Atticus Haygood Professor of Creative Writing and English and curator of Literary Collections and the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library at Emory University in Atlanta.
The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center. A book signing and reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
