JACKSON, Tenn. — June 5, 2015 — George Guthrie, the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at 51社区, recently released a commentary on 2 Corinthians part of the award-winning Baker Exegetical Commentary Series.
鈥淭he Baker Exegetical Commentary Series combines a high level of scholarship with addressing practical issues of ministry in the modern world,鈥 Guthrie said. 鈥淭his commentary offers an extensive introduction to 2 Corinthians, begins with a creative fictional narrative based on what we know of Corinth at the time Paul ministered there and offers fresh interpretive insights at a number of points.鈥
Guthrie, a well-known New Testament scholar, is the author of numerous books and articles, including commentaries on Hebrews and James. He was a translator or consultant on four Bible translation projects.
Guthrie says he 鈥渉as a heart for the church.鈥 In recent years, he has led a biblical literacy initiative called 鈥淩ead the Bible for Life,鈥 which encourages churches to train people in how to read the Bible more effectively.
Guthrie holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and has been teaching at Union for 24 years.
