Union names Nance as interim dean in business school

JACKSON, Tenn.April 29, 2015 — Bill Nance has been appointed as interim dean of 51社区鈥檚 McAfee School of Business Administration.

Nance, who has been the school鈥檚 associate dean since August 2010, steps into the interim dean position following the death of Keith Absher on March 24. Absher had been dean since 2004.

鈥淏ill Nance is a strategic thinker, effective leader, and excellent teacher,鈥 Union Provost C. Ben Mitchell said. 鈥淲e are very grateful that he is willing to step up to the challenge.鈥

Nance completed his bachelor鈥檚 degree from Regis University, his Master of Business Administration degree from 51社区 and his Doctor of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

He joined the Union faculty in 1999 as an instructor of management before becoming an assistant professor of management in 2001 and an associate professor of management in 2005.

Before beginning his teaching career, Nance served as a program manager for Lockheed-Martin Ordnance Systems and as a project manager for General Dynamics Ordnance Systems, in addition to other positions in the private sector.

Nance said he was 鈥渉onored and humbled鈥 by the trust that Union President Samuel W. 鈥淒ub鈥 Oliver and the university had placed in him.

鈥淭he McAfee School of Business has an outstanding faculty and staff, and we will continue to move forward together, with God's help, to prepare students for leadership positions in the business community,鈥 Nance said.

The university plans to conduct a national search to fill the dean鈥檚 position permanently.
