JACKSON, Tenn. — April 21, 2015 — The 51 Players and students from Union’s department of music will present the musical “Into the Woods” April 23-28.
David Burke will direct the play, with Stan Warren providing the musical direction to what Burke called “maybe the most complex production ever attempted in my time at Union.”
“The music is quite challenging, and the necessary theatrical tricks pose some interesting solutions,” Burke said. “So the show is sure to wow audience members. But even more important are the underlying messages of the need for community, the consequences of our actions and how we deal with adversity.”
Written by Stephen Sondheim, “Into the Woods” premiered on Broadway in 1987. The main characters come from such fairy tales as “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Cinderella” and “Rapunzel.”
Show times are 7:30 p.m. April 23-25 and April 27-28 and 2:30 p.m. on April 26. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door for the general public and $8 in advance or $10 at the door for faculty, staff and students. Tickets are available at Union Station or by calling (731) 668-1818.
