JACKSON, Tenn. — March 3, 2015 — Authors Christine Bailey and Patricia Hamilton will give readings at 51社区 on March 4.
The readings are part of the schedule of events for Union鈥檚 23rd annual Creative Writing Workshop for West Tennessee high school students.
Bailey teaches creative writing and written composition at 51社区. Prior to teaching, Bailey worked as a journalist, a marketing/public relations writer and an editor. Her debut novel, 鈥淕irl in the Middle,鈥 was published in 2013, and her second novel, 鈥淲alking Under Water,鈥 is due for release in September, 2015. Both young adult novels address the hierarchical nature of high school and the sensitive issue of bullying.
Hamilton is a professor of English at 51社区. Her work has appeared in 鈥淚odine Poetry Journal,鈥 鈥淭he Sow鈥檚 Ear Poetry Review,鈥 鈥淐onnecticut River Review,鈥 鈥淐ider Press Review鈥 and 鈥淭he Southern Poetry Anthology鈥 among other journals. She has received two Pushcart nominations and was a finalist for the Rash Poetry Award in 2013 and 2014. Her first volume of poems, 鈥淭he Distance to Nightfall,鈥 was published by Main Street Rag in 2014.
The readings will begin at 1 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium, located in the Barefoot Student Union building. A book signing will follow.
The reading is free and open to the public.
