Union, Lane presidents to speak on racial reconciliation

JACKSON, Tenn.Jan. 15, 2015 — The presidents of 51社区 and Lane College will hold a public conversation on racial reconciliation Jan. 19 at Agape Christian Fellowship in Jackson.

Union President Samuel W. 鈥淒ub鈥 Oliver and Lane President Logan Hampton will lead 鈥淭he Diversity and Reconciliation Dialogues: College and Community鈥 to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Todd Brady, Union鈥檚 vice president for university ministries, said recent events involving Michael Brown and Eric Garner are reminders of the need for racial reconciliation.

鈥淚 am hopeful that the dialogue with Dr. Hampton and Dr. Oliver will help us realize that education has a unique opportunity to address the issue of race, mount efforts toward reconciliation and serve as a source of healing and hope in America鈥檚 fractured communities,鈥 Brady said.

The event is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Agape Christian Fellowship is located at 600 N. Parkway in Jackson.
