JACKSON, Tenn. — March 31, 2014 — Award-winning author Bret Lott will present a workshop and reading at 51社区 April 24.
Lott, professor of English at The College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., is the author of 14 books, including 鈥淛ewel,鈥� which was featured as a selection for Oprah鈥檚 Book Club in 1999. He also has recently published an essay collection titled 鈥淟etters and Life: On Being a Writer, On Being a Christian.鈥�
鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to have Lott at Union for reasons beyond the millions of books he鈥檚 sold,鈥� said David Malone, associate professor of English. 鈥淗e鈥檚 an accomplished, conscientious writer who depicts his characters with clarity and empathy.鈥�
The workshop will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. in Room A-1 in the Penick Academic Complex. The reading will follow at 7:30 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student Union Building. The events are free and open to the public.
Lott will be featured as part of Lyceum, a campus-wide arts committee consisting of students and faculty. Past featured artists include Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Charles Wright, ceramic artist Ron Meyers and novelist Betty Smartt Carter.
