JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 20, 2014 — Eleven 51社区 students will present scholarly and creative compositions at the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society convention Feb. 26-March 1 in Savannah, Ga.
The convention accepts about 75 percent of paper submissions, said Roger Stanley, assistant professor of English and adviser of Union鈥檚 Sigma Tau Delta chapter. Nearly 900 papers are presented each year at the convention.
鈥淚t is a tribute to our English faculty that we had such a high acceptance rate,鈥 said Stanley, noting that most of the papers were generated from the upper division English classes. 鈥淯ltimately, the hard work of the students themselves is to be praised for this success in such a competitive environment.鈥
Taylor Hare, Megan Pinckard, Olivia Skelton, Abby Williams, Cameron Wilson and Gracie Wise will present papers at the convention, while Rebecca Edgren will present a poem.
Kate Benedetti and Andrew Hamaker will present short stories. Austin Gray will present nonfiction, and Kayla Ketner will present creative nonfiction.
