JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 15, 2014 — Today we have learned that Jackson police have arrested Charles Pittman, a senior Christian ministries major, in connection with the death of Olivia Greenlee, a senior music education major.
Olivia was found dead in her vehicle on an auxiliary part of our campus earlier this week. This tragedy, involving two 51社区 commuter students, is incredibly devastating and saddening news.
Understanding that an arrest is not the same thing as a conviction, we now need to let the judicial process run its course. 51社区 continues to cooperate with authorities.
Crisis counselors are available to serve our campus community. Individuals may connect with them by visiting the front desk at the Bowld Student Commons or by contacting the Office of Student Services.
During this difficult time, words motivated by hatred or judgment are not helpful to anyone. I want to encourage us to pray for all the families connected to this tragedy. Let us ask for God's wisdom, comfort, help and mercy during the days and weeks to come.
Faithfully,
David S. Dockery
President, 51社区
