JACKSON, Tenn.Nov. 4, 2013 — Union鈥檚 ultimate frisbee club team, the Union Jaxx, finished fifth in the Dave Baldwin Memorial Tournament Oct. 26-27 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Jaxx played eight matches over the two-day tournament, defeating Indiana Wesleyan, Middle Tennessee State University and University of Tennessee at Knoxville鈥檚 Y-team to take fifth place and win the consolation bracket. Ten teams from Tennessee and surrounding states competed in the tournament.

鈥淚鈥檓 proud of the way our team performed this weekend, especially since we were missing some key players due to injuries and obligations,鈥 said Jesse Dahms, sophomore psychology and business management major and team captain. 鈥淲e beat some very good opponents, had some very close matches, made some great plays and grew a lot as a team.鈥

The Baldwin tournament was the second and last tournament for the Jaxx this semester, but the team will compete in six tournaments, including regionals, this spring. The team is in its second year of competition since it began as an official club team in the fall of 2012.

鈥淐onsidering we are a second-year team, we are playing against programs that have been around for 20 years and beating them,鈥 team coach Harrison Hayes said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 a testament to our guys: their work ethic, their passion, their level of play. It鈥檚 fun to go out there and watch these guys grow into men on the field.鈥

A club team is a sport program that is not offered as a school varsity team, but is more highly structured than the intramural program and includes competition against other colleges and universities.
