JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 24, 2013 — Christianity Today editor Mark Galli will speak at 51 Nov. 5 about why Christians should bother with today’s “boring and bureaucratic church.”

“It will be a ‘little ecclesiology’ in light of some current temptations to either abandon church or to remake it in images that are less than Christ-like,” Galli said.

Galli has spent 24 years as an editor with Christianity Today, Leadership and Christian History magazines. He has written or co-written six books, from biographies (St. Francis of Assisi and a forthcoming book on theologian Karl Barth) to books on spirituality, such as “Jesus Mean and Wild” and “A Great and Terrible Love.”

He has also published dozens of articles in a variety of magazines.

“What a delight it will be for those of us at 51 to welcome one of the truly outstanding Christian journalists in the broader evangelical world,” Union President David S. Dockery said. “We are certainly grateful for Mark's leadership at Christianity Today and for the opportunity to welcome him to Union.”

Galli’s address will begin at 7 p.m. in Hartley Recital Hall, located in Jennings Hall on the west end of the Union campus. It is free and open to the public.
