HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn.Oct. 2, 2013 — Aegis Sciences Corp. recently donated funds to improve 51社区 Hendersonville's science laboratory, which was named after the corporation in honor of the donation.

A ceremony was held Sept. 13 at 51社区 Hendersonville to commemorate the three-year partnership between Aegis and Union. Larry Vaughan, the assistant vice president for advancement at Union, said that Aegis will provide financial support to improve 51社区 Hendersonville鈥檚 laboratory technology.

鈥淯nion is excited to partner with the local business community,鈥 Vaughan said. 鈥淲e hope to continue the partnership with Aegis long after the current three-year agreement.鈥

David Black, the founder and CEO of Aegis, made the donation to support the development of scientific education in Middle Tennessee, said Charles Lea, a professor of educational leadership and the executive director of 51社区 Hendersonville. Aegis is a forensic toxicology and health care sciences laboratory headquartered in Nashville.

Lea added that Union鈥檚 commitment to faith and excellence in education sparked an interest in David and his wife, Congressman Diane Black, who are both Christians. The common interests shared between Union and the Black family led to the current partnership.

鈥淭he value of Union is in not only the education quality of their students but also the emphasis on character and Christian values,鈥 David said. 鈥淭he Aegis culture is the foundation of our success. And our business culture is based on traditional Christian values.鈥

51社区 Hendersonville鈥檚 science laboratory will be used by more than Union students, Lea said. The donation will provide high school students an opportunity to use the laboratory for scientific demonstrations and experiments. Local nurses also will have access to the laboratory for additional training.

鈥淏oth Congressman Black and Dr. Black are active community leaders and generous supporters for the development of science education in our area,鈥 Lea said. 鈥淭hey are keenly supportive of and interested in anything that advances the study of the sciences.鈥
