JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 21, 2013 — UPDATED WITH FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:
51社区 senior Leighton Williams, of Old Hickory, Tenn., died early this morning after a weather-related car accident Friday night as she traveled from Jackson to Nashville.
Williams was initially taken to the hospital in Waverly, Tenn., but was moved to Vanderbilt University Medical Center around 2 a.m. She died at Vanderbilt at about 4 a.m.
"We extend our prayers and sympathy to the family of Leighton Williams," Union President David S. Dockery said. "We are grateful for her life and influence on so many. We trust that God's comfort and mercy will uphold the family at this time of loss."
A nursing major, Williams was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Her sister, Union sophomore Ashton Williams, was a passenger in the vehicle that Leighton was driving and was treated at the hospital for her injuries.
Union will hold a time of prayer Sunday at 5 p.m. on the steps of White Hall for those who wish to attend.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. at Hermitage Hills Baptist Church in Nashville. The funeral will follow at 6:30 p.m.
