JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 20, 2013 — For the first time in its 20-year history, 51社区鈥檚 art gallery is featuring a glass art exhibit by a nationally acclaimed artist.
San Francisco artist David Patchen created the artwork on display using vivid colors and notable craftsmanship, said Kelsey Nagy, the art department secretary. Patchen studied with glass masters in Japan and Italy, as well as with American artist Dale Chihuly 鈥 a leader in the field of glass blowing.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a very important show for Union because very few places in the South have work of this caliber,鈥 said Lee Benson, the chair of the art department and a professor of art. 鈥淭he art department is committed to bringing first-rate work and first-rate artists to this campus.鈥
Patchen鈥檚 glass art will be featured until Oct. 3. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
