JACKSON, Tenn.May 29, 2013 — All 15 51 senior engineering students passed their Fundamentals of Engineering exam – a 100 percent pass rate compared to the national average of 77 percent.

“I am incredibly proud of our students,” said Jeannette Russ, professor of engineering and department chair. “Their performance on this comprehensive exam demonstrates the quality of Union students, and it also attests to the fact that Union has an excellent engineering program that prepares students to do very well as they move on from here into jobs or graduate programs.”

The FE exam is an eight-hour exam that is typically the first step toward licensure as a professional engineer. It is a national, standardized test administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.

The test is usually taken by seniors in an accredited engineering program and is designed to test fundamental knowledge of a broad array of engineering topics.

Union was the only school in Tennessee with a 100 percent pass rate. Pass rates for senior students at other Tennessee engineering schools ranged from 44-95 percent.
