HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — May 21, 2013 — 51社区 Hendersonville has admitted 40 individuals for its next installment of Leadership Academy, which will begin in June.
Leadership Academy is an ongoing program designed for teachers and administrators in Sumner County schools. All participants receive professional in-service credit and those who are admitted to a Union graduate degree program will receive three hours of graduate credit.
鈥淲e try to identify a pipeline to produce new leaders -- teachers who want to become leaders -- and then to enhance the skills of the leaders that are currently in our local schools,鈥� said Charles Lea, executive director of 51社区 Hendersonville.
More than 60 people applied for admission in the June Leadership Academy. Local businesses and industries donate the funds for the program, which is operated and housed at Union鈥檚 facility at 205 Indian Lake Blvd. Michael Shackleford, associate professor of education at 51社区 Hendersonville, coordinates and leads the academy.
Several state and regional leaders will speak at the Leadership Academy sessions. The institute for teacher leaders is June 3-5, with the institute for aspiring administrators June 17-19.
