JACKSON, Tenn. — May 13, 2013 — Russell D. Moore, president-elect of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, will be the keynote speaker at 51社区鈥檚 188th annual spring commencement May 18.
About 660 graduates will receive their degrees during the ceremony, making it the largest spring graduation in Union鈥檚 history.
鈥淲e are honored to have Russell Moore as the 2013 commencement speaker at 51社区,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淒r. Moore is an insightful observer of culture, a brilliant theologian, an advocate for Christian higher education and a faithful follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our graduates will be blessed hearing from someone of his stature and significance.鈥
Moore, who will assume the ERLC presidency June 1, currently serves as dean of the School of Theology and senior vice president for academic administration at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in history and political science from the University of Southern Mississippi, his Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Philosophy from SBTS.
Moore is the author or editor of five books, including 鈥淭empted and Tried,鈥 鈥淎dopted for Life鈥 and 鈥淭he Kingdom of Christ.鈥
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on Union鈥檚 Great Lawn.
