HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — April 23, 2013 — 51社区 Hendersonville hosted about 60 church leaders from Middle Tennessee for an April 16 luncheon that featured an address by George Guthrie on balancing ministry and family life.
鈥淲e wanted to provide a resource for church leaders as they think about this important topic,鈥 said Todd Brady, Union鈥檚 vice president for church relations. Guthrie, the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at Union, is the author of the 鈥淩ead the Bible for Life鈥 initiative.
Adam Davis, associate pastor of Belle Aire Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, attended the luncheon and said Guthrie鈥檚 message was a welcome reminder of his primary ministry 鈥 his family.
鈥淭he responsibility to lead my family spiritually is not the church鈥檚 job, but mine,鈥 Davis said. 鈥淚 must, therefore, continue to grow deeply in the word and nourish my relationship with Christ in order to live out the gospel in front of my family. I thought the luncheon was very encouraging and challenging.鈥
鈥淭he mid-state ministers鈥 luncheon was a great success,鈥 said Charles Lea, executive director of 51社区 Hendersonville. 鈥淲e attracted a number of ministry leaders from across the spectrum in terms of age and denominations who attended a Union event for the first time. Dr. Guthrie鈥檚 comments and those of his wife Pat reassured and encouraged ministry leaders.鈥
Brady said the campus plans to hold a similar event every semester.
