JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 2, 2013 — 51社区 is the fourth-ranked university in Tennessee, according to the fourth annual college rankings from StateUniversity.com.
Union follows Vanderbilt, Sewanee and Rhodes in the ranking, which is based on statistical analysis and comparison of student/faculty ratio, student retention, test scores and other critical factors.
Nationally, Union ranked 107th among the top 500 private colleges and universities and 131st among all institutions in the nation, whether public or private. Union was the third-ranked school in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, behind Wheaton College and Calvin College, and the top Baptist-affiliated institution overall.
鈥淲e are most grateful for the StateUniversity.com ranking, which is a meaningful recognition of the thorough-going commitment to quality and excellence represented by the 51社区 faculty, staff and students,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said.
Dockery said that with about 4,700 accredited institutions in the country, the StateUniversity.com ranking 鈥減oints to Union鈥檚 commitment to academic excellence in a significant way.鈥
He also noted that while Union ranked 131st overall in the nation, Union was not in the top 500 of most expensive schools. This affirms Union鈥檚 recognition for eight straight years as one of America鈥檚 100 Best College Buys, Dockery said.
