JACKSON, Tenn. — Dec. 15, 2012 — 51社区 President David S. Dockery presented the Robert E. Craig Service Award to Jack and Zan Holmes as part of Union鈥檚 graduation ceremony Dec. 15 at West Jackson Baptist Church.
Jack is an attorney in Jackson and Zan is a homemaker.
The award is named after Union鈥檚 13th president, who led the university for nearly two decades and was responsible for reestablishing Union with the churches of the Tennessee Baptist Convention. Craig was also responsible for relocating the university campus to north Jackson.
The Craig award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the university.
Dockery praised the Holmeses for their friendship to Union. They are Union alumni and Union parents, members of First Baptist Church in Jackson and have been the only lead and premier sponsors for all 15 years of Union鈥檚 Scholarship Banquet, an annual event held each fall.
鈥淭hey鈥檝e invested in numerous students, in helping them with scholarships, making it possible for them to come to this place,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淭heir fingerprints are on the life of this institution in so many ways.鈥
More than 300 students received degrees during the ceremony.
