JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 26, 2012 — A group of non-traditional students working toward their Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership degrees at 51社区 pushed and shoved, trying to make it all fit.
For a month, the BSOL students had collected baby items donated by individuals and community organizations. Ranging from clothes and diapers to top-of-the-line car seats and a rocking chair, they filled the back of six sport utility vehicles with the items, then took them to Birth Choice, project team member Gretchen Seyerle said.
Birth Choice is a pregnancy diagnostic medical clinic in West Tennessee, which provides ultra sounds and pregnancy consultations. They also give expectant mothers baby care items.
Birth Choice staff said the BSOL students鈥� donation in October was the largest single donation of baby care items Birth Choice has ever received, according to Beverly Absher, chair of the department of continuing studies.
鈥淭hey collected so much, and most of it is new,鈥� Absher said. 鈥淲e had to find them more room 鈥� twice.鈥�
This was not the first time the group had worked together; they are a cohort鈥� a group of continuing studies students who stay together for all of the 14 BSOL courses.
Seyerle said the best part of the project was learning about a Christian non-profit she had not heard of before and giving others an opportunity to participate in its service to the community.
The BSOL degree completion program is designed to meet the needs of working adults with an excellence-driven curriculum in a Christ-centered environment. The program, which can be completed in as little as 18 months, is for adults who have two or more years of college credit and at least two years of relevant work experience.
