JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 17, 2012 — The Holy Spirit lives in Christians to allow them to live as Jesus would have lived, Jimmy Scroggins told 51社区 students Oct. 17.
鈥淲e've got to discover what the Spirit is doing and get on board,鈥 said Scroggins, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, Fla. 鈥淭he Spirit is teaching us, leading us, guiding us.鈥
Scroggins spoke in a chapel service in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel for Union鈥檚 annual Faith in Practice week. The speaker for the special chapel series each year focuses on a few aspects of living the Christian life. Scroggins will speak again at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 and Oct. 19.
Scroggins said it is important to fight against four temptations as Christians seeking to live out their faith: the temptations to put their hope in gifted leaders, to undervalue churches, to undervalue works as a response to being saved by grace, and to forget about heaven while focusing on missional living in earthly cities.
鈥淚f we want our lives to be significant, we are going to have to connect to what God is doing and then keep it that way until the day comes when (Jesus returns),鈥 Scroggins said.
