JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 17, 2012 — Chuck Lawless, vice president of global theological advance for the International Mission Board, will address students Sept. 17 and 19 at 51社区 during the annual Global Opportunities Week 鈥� a week of focusing on missional living in the United States and around the world.
Lawless will speak about facing the impossible for the sake of the nations and about warriors in the Great Commission.
鈥淯nion has become a leading place for inspiring missionaries to go to the field,鈥� said Gregory A. Thornbury, vice president for spiritual life at Union. 鈥淚n many, many instances, that passion to reach the nations with the name of Jesus begins for our students in GO Week, where many have captured the vision of the mission of God for the first time.鈥�
In addition to Lawless鈥� chapel addresses, students will have the opportunity to attend seminars addressing subjects ranging from adoption to church planting, browse ministry opportunities at an exhibition fair and hear from Shane Crister, a Union alumnus who now serves as church mobilization team leader for the North American Mission Board,
Crister will talk to students in a Sept. 21 chapel address about the need to evangelize North America, a part of the world that has quickly become the fourth largest unreached area, next to China, Indonesia and India. His role at NAMB is to oversee the strategy for mobilizing Southern Baptist Convention churches to be involved in church planting all across North America and Canada, specifically targeting urban centers.
The following Monday, Sept. 24, is the deadline for students to turn in their applications for Global Opportunities trips. Union facilitates 17 mission trips for Union students, which will take place in January 2013, over spring break and during the summer.
