JACKSON, Tenn. — Aug. 30, 2012 — Brian Denker, assistant to the director of 51社区鈥檚 Ryan Center for Biblical Studies, recently traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to provide training for Ethiopian ministers.
The three-week trip from Aug. 1-20 included classroom lectures, preaching opportunities and personal home visits. Denker taught classes on church history and bible doctrine to Ethiopian church leaders and ministers. Classes were held at the Resurrection Library, a community outreach and training center hosted by Indigenous Outreach International, a global missions ministry located in Jackson, Tenn.
The Ryan Center has partnered with IOI in providing resources for the Resurrection Library. Book donations are collected several times each year and sent to help fill the shelves of this ministry outreach library. The Resurrection Library offers free reading tools to Ethiopian students who are eager to find English language resources. Pastors and church leaders use the library to do Bible study and ministry training.
A local Ethiopian seminary student noted that the holdings of the Resurrection Library are on par with the best evangelical seminaries in Ethiopia鈥檚 capital city of Addis Ababa.
This was Denker鈥檚 third trip to Ethiopia and his second opportunity to teach classes to fulfill the Ryan Center鈥檚 mission 鈥渢o promote thoughtful and disciplined reading, study, interpretation, and application of the Bible throughout the world.鈥�
鈥淭he Ryan Center is more than just a biblical studies library on Union鈥檚 campus,鈥� Denker said. 鈥淚t is a ministry that seeks to help people here and in other parts of the world read and understand the Bible well.鈥�
